GKB installs wave attenuation barriers with the Limach E88.1

GKB is currently installing wave attenuation barriers in the Monsterse Vaart in 's-Gravenzande. These timber structures protect the adjacent nature-friendly riverbank, helping to preserve the area's ecological value.

The project will take several months and is being carried out entirely from the water. To complete the job, GKB is operating a fully zero-emission fleet, with the Limach E88.1 playing a key role.

Precision work on the water
When we arrive at the De Groene Schakel nature reserve, Willem and Jesse pick us up by boat and take us to the pontoon where the Limach E88.1 is at work. Machine operator Jesse shows us exactly what the project involves. Using the sorting grapple, he carefully positions the chestnut posts one by one, pressing them firmly into the riverbed with precision.

A smart energy solution on site
Working on the water naturally comes with its challenges. One of them is the absence of a fixed power supply.

To overcome this, Limach's engineering team developed a smart charging solution. On a second pontoon, a Limach Powerstation is connected to a 400V battery pack from GKB's Limach E140, allowing the spare battery pack to supply power to various electric machines and equipment on site.

On some parts of the project, the Powerstation is used to charge the 100V battery packs of the Limach E88.1. During our visit, however, it is primarily powering the electric workboat, enabling the team to travel easily between the pontoons and the shore.

No downtime with battery swap system
On this section of the project, the pontoon is close enough to the riverbank to allow the battery packs to be swapped easily. Two fully charged battery packs for the E88.1 are kept ready on a truck nearby.

As soon as one battery pack is depleted, it is replaced with a fully charged one, allowing work to continue without interruption. The depleted battery packs are then returned to GKB's premises, where they are recharged using green energy.

Thanks to the Battery Swap System of the E88.1, smart charging solutions, and a fleet of other zero-emission machines, GKB can continue working fully electrically, even in challenging locations, without compromising productivity.
